Russ Ansley grew up in the culturally moribund plains of West Texas. In the early ‘70s, he fled to Austin, where he studied Art at the University of Texas, dabbling in photography, painting, ceramics and drawing.

During his time at UT, Ansley spent many nights in darkened auditoriums, seduced by the University’s robust cinematic venues, where he found himself particularly drawn to the lyrical imagery of films produced outside of American mainstream.

After receiving a BFA in 1976, Ansley parlayed his interests in art and cinema into a career as a commercial artist, illustrator, animator, cinematographer, copywriter and director. In 1994, he began to teach digital graphics, animation and video and has been the recipient of 4 educational grants.

Today, in addition to teaching animation for the Film School of San Antonio, Ansley works as an award-winning, independent filmmaker.
